WCLN in partnership with WIRE for Women and the Commission on the Status of Women hosted a training on the basics of a first-time run for office. Participants attended interactive breakout sessions on campaign strategy, fundraising, marketing and more, led by local women leaders, to jump-start a campaign.

August 26, 2018 Women’s Equality Day Celebration
WCLN partnered with San Mateo County Commission on the Status of Women and the Millbrae Library for a Sunday afternoon social to commemorate the 98th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote. It featured a viewing of former Icelandic Presidential Candidate Halla Tomasdottir’s inspiring TED Talk, “It’s Time for Women to Run for Office” and comments by Mayor Gina Papan.
February 3, 2018 Campaign 101
WCLN held its first “Campaign 101,” a workshop for women on the basics of running a campaign for elected office. Led by local elected officials and topic experts, attendees learned how to develop a campaign message, the basics of filing papers, establishing a campaign committee, fundraising, working with the media, voter-targeting, getting endorsements, and more.

WCLN commemorated the 97th Anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote with a presentation on the Power of Storytelling by the San Mateo County Office of Diversity and Equity and a performance of “Airswimming,” an avant-garde play set in 1920s England about two women who overcome a hopeless situation through their friendship while locked up in a hospital for the “criminally insane” because they had women out of wedlock.
